Haylee started her first day at Blackland Prairie Elementary today. She was so excited! Her teacher's name is Mrs. Johnson and the classroom has a pet turtle named Luther. Since our house is so close to school we get to walk - it only takes about 10 mintutes to get there. We had to get up really early though, because school starts at 7:45!!Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Dino Park

We had so much fun today at the Dinosaur Park. The girls' saw a ton of different dinosaurs and we went on a scavenger hunt for fossils and other prehistoric animals. They both really got into looking for the footprints that marked the clues along the way. Kelsee wasn't all that fond of looking at the dinosaurs though - she saw a playground on the way in and couldn't wait to try out the swings!

A Trip to The Austin Science and Nature Center
The girls have been begging to go to the Austin Science and Nature Center since we got back to Texas. Mommy finally gave in and took them there today. We saw lots of rescued animals like raccoons, coyotes, turtles, snakes, tarantulas, and tons of different kinds of owls. This is a picture of the turtles we saw - they were really cool.
The Favorite spot of course was the Dino Pit - where the girls get to dig for dinosaur bones - how cool! Haylee insisted that we stay until she finished the whole dinosaur.

Exploring Downtown Austin
Scott and I decided it would be fun to try the public bus system to explore downtown Austin. We started out at the "Park and Ride" in Round Rock and rode it all the way downtown. We saw lots of interesting people on the way!! The girls thought it was great. We stopped off at the Capital and climbed the stairs all the way to the top. The girls tried their first piece of New York Style Pizza - it was almost bigger than them!! We walked down to the Austin Museum of Art and then down the dirt path to Town Lake/Lady Bird Johnson Lake. We thought we could just walk over to Zilker Park, but it was 100 degrees that day and we didn't quite make it. Maybe next time.
